CO2

What is CO2?

CO2 is a gas that occurs naturally in some biological processes and is also absorbed in others, such as photosynthesis. The balance between these processes guarantees adequate levels of CO2 in the atmosphere, necessary for life.

CO2 is one of the gases that cause the greenhouse effect, so an excessive concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere increases this effect and thus the temperature of the earth, producing global warming.

At present, CO2 levels in the atmosphere have grown significantly, probably due to human activity and the use of fossil fuels. This has led to states and institutions being involved in the drastic reduction of emissions.

On the other hand, CO2 has a practical utility and value in numerous industrial processes, so its recovery and reuse has beneficial effects both environmentally and economically, since on the one hand the emission to the atmosphere is avoided and by another one can get an economic return.
