Vertex Bioenergy is an European benchmark in the biofuel industry. Is a leader in the bioethanol production in Spain and France. Vertex Bioenergy produces other valuable products such as animal feed (DDGS), electricity, captured CO2 and corn oil.
Vertex Bioenergy has a biofuel production capacity at most competitive market price due to the facilities flexibility to use several raw materials and to produce different products. Supported by a stable production capacity, thanks to the operations efficiency, optimal logistics and by the raw material supply excellence, these contribute to reliable and critical mass, which is key for the optimal activity development.
Vertex Bioenergy actually owns four bioethanol production facilities in Spain and France, with a total capacity production of 780 Ml, including wine alcohol units.
Besides has a production capacity of animal feed of 505.000 t per year and 575.000 MWh of electricity.
The location of the plants allows Vertex Bioenergy to be in a good position to cover the demand of Southern Europe and the Mediterranean countries.
Bioethanol is a source of renewable and clean energy that, for some time, have been reliably and credibly replacing gasoline in vehicle engines and contribute to the safety and diversification of the energy supply. Their use in a pure state or in mixtures with fossil fuels reduces CO2 emissions, hinders the progress of climate change and reduces the emission of contaminating agents into the atmosphere. Actually, the bioethanol is the source that provides a higher octane for gasoline with the lowest cost, besides it has a renewable origin.
Obtained from cereal grain, through chemical processes and treatments, bioethanol is used to produce ETBE (a gasoline additive), or for its direct mixing with gasoline, with different percentages of bioethanol, being the most common the E85, E15, E10 and E5 (gasoline with percentages of bioethanol of 85, 15, 10, and 5 % respectively).
Vertex Bioenergy can process some non-food based raw materials or residues as wine alcohol that allows the Company to produce even more sustainable bioethanol, which benefits of the double-counting category for the European Commission sustainability objectives accounting.
The so-called DDGS is obtained as a co-product of the bioethanol production process from grains. This is a high-protein compound which results from the extraction of starch in grains and is perfectly suited for the production of cattle feed.
The Corn oil is a co-product of the bioethanol production from corn. It has several uses, mainly for animal nutrition or biofuels production.
Some of the current bioethanol production facilities are equipped with co-generation systems that by using natural gas generate the steam and the electricity required to operate the bioethanol plants. At present, the cogeneration systems of the plants in Spain, produce a greater amount of electricity than the plant's needs, being the excess fed to the electricity grid, leading to greater profitability and sustainability of the facilities.
Besides this, the production facilities are equipped with systems that collect the CO2 produced in the fermentation, avoiding its emission to the atmosphere and therefore contributing to the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction.
Vertex Bioenergy manages the commercialization and supply of the demand generated in the biofuel markets, the majority of the sales are located in the actual production countries and in the rest of European countries, being the contracts mostly long term with the most important fuel distributors.
Vertex Bioenergy contributes to sustainable development by placing on the market renewable fuel (bioethanol) and through the adoption of environmentally-friendly technologies that favor a significant reduction of contaminating emissions, for their use in vehicles for public and private transport. Sustainability in our operation is a key driver, keeping the natural habitats, environment, the human rights and the community respect as a must.
