The market for the CO2 captured is expected to remain stable in the
EU due to the following factors:
- The CO2 produced in the ethanol industry, once purified, has
characteristics of Food/Beverage grade CO2, and meets the demands
of the beverage industry and the food industry, mainly of frozen
food. It is also used to improve crops in greenhouses, and can also
be used in other industrial uses.
- The demand for CO2 is expected to grow slightly in Europe, with
Spain and France being large producers and consumers and the CO2
market has a markedly local character.
- It is currently one of the most efficient and economical processes
of food grade CO2 production, so the CO2 produced via fermentation
is of renewable origin has a representative market share of
approximately 25% and growing as it is positioned to replace more
and more petroleum based CO2.
